08 08 08

The date: 08 08 08

A notable date to be sure. I'm starting this blog!

Today is the first day of the rest of my blogging life! While I had kept a crude HTML 'blog' diary, I'm active on countless social networks, and in the last year I've some how become something of a blog addict (more on that sooner or later), I have never gotten around to actually creating my very own blog (with interactive features like comments, ratings, and search). I've had all sorts of excuses which were mostly unanswered questions like:
  • Should I go with a blogging service or software?
  • Which costs less, is free, or is open source?
  • Which offers the most customizable features?
  • Can I merge my old 'blog archive' diary type thing with the new blog?
  • Can I use WordPress? - If/when I ever geek out to learn how to set up the most popular (open source) blog software for web sites.
  • Can I still use Drupal? - If/when I ever geek out to learn how to set up the most popular (open source) content management software for web sites.
  • Can it be integrated into all of my social networks like Facebook, Tribe, MySpace, Twitter, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.?
  • Can I sub-categorize (tag?) a general blog into more specific sub-sectioned feeds? - Since my ridiculously diverse interests may not be of value to everyone it makes sense to offer feed subscription options. Some examples of subjects I might hit on: activism, architecture, Burning Man, camping, consumer culture, diary, ecology, environment, computer animation, conspiracy, design, furniture design, gadgets, graphic design, happiness, health, independent film making, leftist politics, life, LifeHacker, literature, mental health, minimalist (survivalist) lifestyle, music, nuskool breaks, philosophy, popular movies, power (solar, wind, oil, politics), substances, sustainability, TreeHugger, wellness, etc.
  • Is it worth my while? - Will anyone even bother to read the ramblings of a lunatic? Could I ever make a living at it? Or even part time?
While I haven't completely thrown my hands up in the air to be altogether swept away into the Google monoverse I know that it can't be a bad thing to at least start my blog here on Blogger. Before I ramble on forever I'm going to wrap this post, save some for next time, and in the meantime I look forward to hearing your feedback. Is there anything I've forgotten?

Peace out,
~ jSunshine *
